| My parents are huge lovers of music (especially my dad who has a HUGE vinyl collection) and made sure to raise me on good music. I was raised on a huge variety of somewhat uncommon stuff, a lot of world music and reggae ( Manu Chao, Gentleman, apparently the first music they played for me as a baby was Miriam Makeba), quality Slovenian stuff like Siddharta and Murat & Jose, Ali En, of course Magnifico. Jinx was another BIG one, and of course The Beatles. Interestingly even tho my dad is a big fan of many classic American bands, he never really played much of that, I 'discovered' most of them myself. My dad was always way more into reggae, world and jazz, so I feel like from the get-go I had a very different musical upbringing than a lot of my peers in Slovenia, which also paved the way for my love of really diverse music. | |

| ohhh that's rly interesting! (I say as if i didn't know before LMAO)
It was always interesting to me how different our music upbringing was despite being in neighbouring countries; my dad was never a fan of foreign bands, so i grew up listening to slavic music and ex-yu rock. there was an online quiz going around recently "can you recognize which song is this lyric from" and we scored the same lmao.
love manu chao tho. i guess to me it's just that yugoslavian music has something special; a dose of irony and passion i can't feel in the american music. we often say "this is a song to break glasses to" when something is powerful, and there is a specific yugoslavian pathos of yearning and emotions which just... can't be replicated.
it stems frok old folk music, often inspired by old turkish culture. and also there was a lot of dalmatian music in my household. | |

| cant really remember well how we started on music... since its been there our whole life. up until fifth grade we didnt know what music we liked other than what niki (our sibling) and our dad played we didnt have any preference.. but one day we watched yellow submarine and it literally grabbed us by the throat and we were into beatles for like 2 years straight maybe more and JUST beatles LOL i guess thats how it started, since we also got onto the social media at the same time so we could explore more stuff :3 oh and our dad has a very weird taste in music that we still havent been able to figure out, i think he likes traditional? maybe? hes one of those dads thats like this fucking sucks (listens to it anyway) but also he has a certain type of songs he loves and thinks its the best music ever and everything else sucks we grew up on his music, no matter how odd it got it still introduced us to a lot of really good music (hate to say it but his taste is actually good) niki also had a huge influence especially when listening to metal/rock forever thankful to them honestly (we wouldnt be listening to my chemical romance rn without them hggsrhsrh) | |
