Art Anarchy Zine (Submissions Open)

Hello everyone! In my previous thread, it seems the zine idea with the most support is a zine titled after the forum, Art Anarchy, showcasing creations with themes of anarchy, social justice, anti-imperialism, the nature of art, web collapse, and web revival! Obviously, this is a pretty broad theme with plenty of room for creativity, which I think is for the best. Submissions can be new work made just for the zine or pre-existing work that fits the theme.

To submit to the zine, please post your work (or a link to it) in this forum thread, along with its title (or "Untitled") and what name you would like to be credited by. I plan to accept all submissions that follow the rules, up to a maximum of 100 - if I get more than that, we'll need to figure out a review process.

I will be accepting submissions until at least August 31. However, if we do not get many submissions or if I don't have time to get started right away, submissions may remain open longer. I will post in the thread when submissions close.

I will create the zine by compiling everyone's work in Affinity Publisher and posting it on a new Neocities site I will make specifically to house forum zines. It will be freely available to the public. Zine pages will be roughly square, maybe slightly taller vertically.

Types of work accepted:

• 2D art
  
• Photography
  
• Photo of 3D art/crafts
  
• Writing
  
• Stills from videos, which can be accompanied by a link to the full piece (since I can't put a video in a zine)
  
• Lyrics from songs or quotes from spoken audio, which can be accompanied by a link to the full piece (since I can't put audio in a zine)
  

Submission rules:

• No hate speech
  
• No endorsement of right-wing political movements
  
• No suggestive content involving underage people or characters
  
• Maximum 5 submissions per person across all media
  
• Please make sure images can reasonably fit on a zine page without having to become illegibly small or distorted
  
• Tell me whether or not it is OK to slightly crop your image to fit it better on a zine page (it's OK if not)
  
• It doesn't need to be on the nose, but submissions should at least slightly relate to the theme
  
• No sexual NSFW (artistic nudity OK if nonsexual)*
  

*I want the zine to be safe and accessible for minors to submit to and read, which is why I can't accept sexual NSFW. However, I also feel that in our political environment where even the mildest queer sexuality is being attacked, it isn't appropriate to fully exclude sexual NSFW from a zine with these themes. Do you all like the idea of having a separate 18+ version of the zine that could include any NSFW submissions that people might have and exclude submissions by minors, but otherwise be the same as the main zine, or do you feel it is unnecessary? If you all think it's a good idea, I will join the NSFW group and make a thread there too for those submissions.

question! do you have a suggestion for what image size to use (rough estimate is okay!)? i've worked on zines before, but it was a school one where they sort of just changed the size or cropped it based on what they needed, so i'm not sure if there's a standard size.

Pretty much anything is OK! The pages on the website will most likely be pretty small (to fit on the computer screen) so it doesn’t need to be extremely high res, although if everything is high res enough I may do a high res version in case anybody wants to print a copy out for themselves. What I’m getting after with the size thing is that for example if someone submits an image that’s 5 times as long as it is tall, it won’t fit very well on a page.

I've been sitting on a couple agitpropy designs against anti-customization practices in computing for a little while, which may fit with the themes you're looking for. however, the design is a bit risque and I am not sure if it's too much. I have seen more sexual daytime TV adverts but that doesn't necessarily mean "therefore it's fine", I'm afraid I struggle to understand what NSFW really means to people place-to-place.

I have a mockup of the designs under a spoiler tag below, please let me know if it is suitable (no hard feelings if not ofc.)

Hi! I don't think this is too risque at all, I think it would be great for the zine! Thank you for asking. When I say we are avoiding NSFW in the zine, I mean I don't think it's appropriate to have straight up porn in it since minors are able to participate too. Suggestive content is fine (although to me, this doesn't even seem that suggestive).

oho thought this would be a fun idea to experiment with, frutiger aero aesthetics and how they promised a clean future, when in reality the same tech and companies that would use those aesthetics have ended up contributing to make things worse.

been brainstorming ideas for this all week, and every time i start putting them to canvas they always seem to end up too far from the actual message i wanna convey, but it might just be me. i'll share some screenshots of the two i've put most work in, but i fear i might end up empty-handed due to my own apathy

Looking good so far!!! We don't have many submissions yet, so I expect I will probably need to extend the deadline - so you should have plenty of time, don't worry!
