any of you ever try painting old DVDs? i tried it a while back while hanging out with some friends, and it was really fun! (don't worry, i only used DVDs of movies that were too scratched up to even play, i didn't have cases for most of them as a lil guy.)
here's one i did (apologies for bad lighting sob-) about a month ago i believe? i don't do traditional painting often and i freehanded it but it turned out pretty good for my abilities and for what i wanted to achieve, so i have it on my wall :O (the character is Wally Darling from Welcome Home)
if anyone is curious about how this is done, you split the CD or DVD down the middle with a knife or scissors (please please PLEASE be careful! do this with proper safety equipment, you can genuinely hurt yourself doing this) so that the side with the cover and the side that is face-down split from each other. it doesn't always turn out perfect, some discs will fragment, crack, or the covers will stick and peel on the clear parts.

One time in an eco art class I made a shiny cape out of old dvds! And when I was in college studying writing, one of the art students had their thesis project be painting old records. Super cool art form! Reuse more trash in art! Fuck yeah

hell yeah!!
old DVDs and CDs are genuinely such great art materials. the shape is unique and lends well for some fun ideas, and the materials they're made of are shiny n pretty.
i want to make more art out of reusable materials eventually (it's fun to decorate the room with stuff like that), i just gotta come up with some ideasĀ

that's such a neat idea??? i don't think i've seen it before but it looks so cool!
the splitting part is so that you're left with the transparent dvd? what kind of colors did you use for that?
