hi everyone! i'm mila, from serbia and currently 26
-i did my bachelors in fine arts in the netherlands, so that influenced my perspective on art a lot. i've been on the internet since i was a kid and have always loved illustration, so my approach on art is kinda a weird mix of the two! -primarily a painter, but currently working with all sorts of media. particularly making booklets, installation and trying really hard to get good at digital art! i really want to be able to draw my oc's nicely -my art practice is largely based on memory, nostalgia, archives and humanity
- i love movies and tv (black sails!!) - unfortunately i play way too much video games (mass effect my beloved) - some of my favorite artists are charlotte salomon, anthony cudahy and ida applebroog - if by any chance some of you are interested in art theory/history of art theory i'm your gal! would love to chat about it
if there is anything else you'd like to know, just ask!

o yeah! its mostly older work because unfortunately been on a bit of a hiatus due to mental/physical health issues but you can see some stuff on -> https://www.milajankovic.com/ it has my graduation piece which i still feel represents my work, and an old piece where i gently defaced babuske dolls as a commentary on national identity. my paintings are all based on images from either family or public archives, which i then alter in a variety of ways, small or large, as a way of creating 'alternate' histories. often it has to do with my identity as a queer woman and how that fits into being from the balkans. my thesis was also on said topic, largely influenced by the future of nostalgia by svetlana boym and rewriting the self: history, memory and narrative.
a newer project i just mentioned to churn out is a small booklet about autism, friendship and language hoping to share that somewhere soon.
sorry if thats too much info i can spiral a lil bit when talking about the topic

ah yeah, i figured i might be more contemporary art oriented than most folks here :') hopefully nobody minds. one of the things that became important to me towards the end of my studies is the blurring between 'fine arts' and 'design' a binary some people are waaay to concerned with. i'd love for my paintings to both have illustrative qualities (lately i've started adding text too!) while simultaneously having a conceptual/theoretical background.
