I love music so personally and deeply and u bet i want to recommend some of my favourite bands, so here's a thread of some music I'm into these days!!
Good Luck
2008-2012
Pop punk / indie rockOne of my favourite bands ever since I found them last year. They play pop-punk with a very distinct and genuine sound, with 2 distinctly different singers. The band's entire vibe is extremely nostalgic and somewhat melancholic with beautifully written and complex lyrics. Several of their songs tackle the themes of growing up, changing, letting go of your dreams, and being okay with it.
Fave albums: Into Lake Griffy (2008), Without Hesitation (2011)
Fave songs: Impossible, Stars Were Exploding, Hey Matt, Stone Cathedral Hill, Same Stories, 1001 Open Hands, It Gets Harder, A Song to Comfort the Sick

1999-2003 (they still exist but we don't talk about it)
Alt/Prog rock, extremely unique soundSiddharta's music in their first three albums is unlike anything I've heard before or after, and I've listened to them for almost my entire life. They have an extremely unique and complex sound and the lyrics is pure poetry, although most of their songs are in Slovenian.
Fave albums: ID (1999), Nord (2001), Rh- (2003)
Fave songs: Vojna Idej, Siddharta, Pot v X, Apokalipsa, Neon, Platina, Orion Lady, Rave, Male Roke/Voda, Ciklon Orka, Japan

1998>
Dark cabaret with a lot of variety and comedyI've listened to Voltaire for half my life, and as an artist I hold immense respect for his work. Every other album tackles a different genre or has a unique twist to it, Voltaire is truly an artist that changes constantly and always keeps you on your toes about what he'll release next. Of course that means that some of his albums don't really appeal to me, but that's okay, because not everything needs to be for me!
Fave albums: Then and Again (2004), Raised by Bats (2014), The Black Labyrinth (2022)

2009>
Ska punk, punk rockAnother band with phenomenal lyricism
(you might be noticing a pattern) and very upbeat, fast melodies. In accordance to their punk-adjacent genre, this band expresses a lot of criticism and frustration towards society in their songs, in a few cases aimed directly at Ireland, their home country.
Fave albums: Marrowbone Lane (2017)
Fave songs: Fuck Team Sports, Stray, G'wan So, The Mirror Stage, Forty Shades of Grey, Breso, Along the Way, Under the Lampost, Language, Holy Communion, Sons & Mothers, Cutting Room Floor, Marrowbone Lane, Singing from the Septic Tank

Power metalThis is an interesting band for people who love to get engrossed in a story!
Their albums are a chronological epic fantasy/space adventure about the legendary hero Angus McFife (and his descendants), engaged in a long fight with an evil wizard Zargothrax. The band tells a story that's equal parts cheekily stereotypical and very engaging in a way that's about 70% comedic and 30% serious. All that aside, the music itself is absolutely phenomenal, possibly one of the best examples of power metal I've ever heard. Every album ends in a grand final battle, which also doubles as a 10-12 minute power metal masterpiece.
Fave albums: Space 1992-Rise of the Chaos Wizards (2015), Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex (2019)
Fave songs: Apocalypse 1992, Masters of the Galaxy, Goblin King of the Darkstorm Galaxy, Universe on Fire, Hootsforce, The Fires of Ancient Cosmic Destiny, On The Wings Of A Rainbow

1994-???
J-RockThis is technically a fictional band from the anime Macross 7, but with the vocals of Yoshiki Fukuyama it really stands above most similar bands. Their music is very optimistic and upbeat, carrying extremely good vibes where ever they go.
Fave albums: Dynamite Fire!! (1998), Fukuyama Fire (2005), Re.Fire!! (2009)
Fave songs: Totsugeki Love Heart (A.D.2060), Angel Voice, Try Again, Big Bang, Remember 16, Virgin Story, Hello, Nameless Frontier Town, New Frontier, Dynamite Explosion

Power metal, symphonic metalA phenomenal classic power metal band with an outstanding and very distinct vocalist. Their music provides a similar vibe to the old 80s fantasy movies to me. There's undeniable talent and quality on display, which is very charmingly contrasted by lyrics that sound a little bit like it was written by a teenager. Granted a very poetic and well-meaning teenager, but a teenager nonetheless. This is because they come from Sweden and English isn't their first language.
Fave albums: Destiny (1997), Infinite (2000), Elements Pt.1 (2003)
Fave songs: Hunting High and Low, Phoenix, Freedom, Glory of the World, Destiny, 4000 Rainy Nights, Playing with Fire, Eagleheart, Fantasia, and also Paradise bc fuck the haters

Synth, Electronic folkThis is a very interesting musician who's been making music in Niger since the 70s but was only discovered by the wider world in 2013. His album Taaritt is a masterpiece and I love to listen to when I need some peace and quiet but don't want silence. It's an absolutely transcendent album.
Fave albums: Taaritt (created in the late 80s, released in 2014)
Fave songs: Ya Bismillah, Ci Da Dy... honestly just this entire album.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcrSzSplcvg Manu Chao
1984>
Reggae, Worldbeat, Latin alternativeAnother musician whose music I grew up with! Manu Chao's music is extremely political, often tackling themes of oppression and immigration, as well as women's rights, anti-racism and pro-environment. He is a massively popular musician in Europe and Latin America and both his activism and his music are incredibly powerful.
Fave albums: Clandestino (1998), La Radiolina (2007)
Fave songs: Me Llaman Calle, Welcome to Tijuana, Clandestino, Politik Kills, Rainin In Paradize, Desaparecido, Bongo Bong

2001–2018
Power MetalAnother great power metal band with a theme!
While not as in-depth with entire lore as Gloryhammer, Wisdom's theme was more general. In a very vague way, they are telling a story about a kingdom trying to rise up against a tyrannical king.
With a phenomenal vocalist and some absolute banger dark fantasy lyrics with empowering, multi-vocal chorus, it always makes me sad to remember that this band had to split up due to the singer falling ill.
Fave albums: Judas (2011), Marching for Liberty (2013)
Fave songs: Live Forevermore, Marching for Liberty, Judas, Silent Hill, Age of Lies, Dust of the Sun, Have no Fear, Hero, Rise Of The Wise
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8amfLYjf9w Ronnie James Dio
1957–2010
Heavy metal, hard rockI feel like I shouldn't have needed to talk about the legend that is the grandfather of metal Ronnie James Dio, but I will say a few words anyway. First of all, all you need to do is really just listen to his vocal performance, it truly speaks for itself. Dio may be the source of the fantastical themes that a lot of metal bands still play today. His songs often hold the themes of magic and mysticism, in a way you can barely find today.
Fave albums: Holy Diver (1983), The Last in Line (1984), Dream Evil (1987)
Fave songs: Night People, Evil Eyes, Walk on Water, All the Fools Sailed Away, Holy Diver, Hungry for Heaven, Mystery, Rainbow in the Dark, The Last in Line

The Coffinshakers

Horror country/americanaA band that sings spooky songs about vampires and werewolves with the air of old horror cinema, what else do you want from me
Fave albums: The Coffinshakers (2007)
Fave songs: Phantom of the Night, Return of the Vampire, Walpurgis Night, From Here to Hell, Transylvania

1992–1997
Indie pop, cuddlecoreSaving this one for last because it's the band I got into most recently, only a few months ago. I love the vibe of this band. You have an incredibly sweet and girly sounding vocalist, and a fun mixture of sugary love songs and songs with a fun dark or sad twist to them. I love the singer's voice so much, I feel like female vocalists of this more natural type are growing increasingly rare in today's over-produced world of music. Cub felt like a breath of fresh air.
Fave albums: Betti-Cola (1993), Box of Hair (1996)
Fave songs: Main and Broadway, Pillow Queen, My Chinchilla, River Side, Magic 8 Ball, Electric Chair, Pretty Pictures, My Assassin, So Far Apart, New York City
